About the teachers

12-day permaculture course

Permaculture course

During this 12-day course (72 hours), we share a lot of knowledge on different topics, such as setting up a food forest and energy-efficient building. You learn to observe and analyse your surroundings, we take a look at different green projects in the area and we get to work practically in Anna’s Tuin. You collaborate on the group design assignment and also make an individual final design.

Designing complex systems

What is permaculture?

Permaculture is a design science rooted in the observation of natural systems. Using permaculture, you can create sustainable environments. The design system is based on patterns and relationships in nature and is applicable in all kinds of areas: from food production in kitchen gardens and food forests, to building and the economy.

Learning together

The course

In 12 course days, you will learn what it takes to start designing and maintaining permaculture projects. Your view on our current production and consumption system will be sharpened and you will be given alternatives that are sustainable for the generations to
come. Besides theory, the programme offers practical exercises in observation and design. The teachers have an open and interactive teaching style. There is plenty of room for discussion and exchange of ideas, based on practical examples, photos and films.

Location(s)

On cold days, classes take place in the sustainable building Matrix ONE and in warm weather, classes are in Anna’s Tuin & Ruigte. Anna’s Tuin is a social and educational project with a vegetable garden, food forest, paint garden, bee & butterfly garden and a large area of rough terrain. It is a great example of permaculture in practice and an inspiring place to learn.

Certificate

All aspects to obtain the internationally recognized Permaculture Design Course certificate are included in this course. During the course, there will be a collaborative design exercise. You will conclude the PDC by presenting your own permaculture design of a project of your choice. An attendance of at least 80% is compulsory for
obtaining the certificate of the PDC.

Teachers

Fleur Jager
has been involved in Anna’s Tuin & Ruigte since 2019, 4.5 years of which she has been the garden coordinator. She gives tours, workshops and presentations on permaculture. She followed her PDC with Taco Blom in The Hague and the Permaculture Teacher Training with Morag Gamble.

Michiel Busz
has been practising permaculture since 2017, obtained two PDCs and trained as a permaculture teacher with Morag Gamble. He is involved in several (volunteer) projects centred on permaculture and food forests. He also teaches the permaculture annual course in Utrecht.
